About
I am currently the Assistant Director of the Irish Institute of Hellenic Studies at Athens. I completed my Ph.D at the University of Liverpool in 2010. It focussed on social aspects of technological choice in the ceramic production practices of Middle Neolithic Communities from the Peloponnese, Greece. While completing my Ph.D I twice held the Macmillan-Rodewald Studentship at the British School at Athens.
I have a background in agriculture and I worked as a professional contract archaeologist in Ireland for five years before beginning my PhD. I worked on several research projects in Greece including the Livatho Valley survey (2004), the Kouphovouno Project (2002-8) and the Keros Project (2006-8). In addition I have been Field Director of the Sparta Theatre Project (2008) and am currently the Field Director of the Koutroulou Magoula Project (2009-ongoing. I have also worked on research projects in Scotland, France and Panama.
My interests concern the social role of technology in ancient societies, ceramic ecology as well as excavation methodologies. Of late I am exploring the issue of cultural resource development and sustanable practises.
